 Family Enrichment Center:

Family Enrichment Centers (FEC) are warm and welcoming community gathering places where any family or individual can come for support, and information, and to participate in and or lead activities (called "offerings"). Each FEC is a unique, home- like setting designed with and for community members where they can connect as neighbors, contribute to their community, and support one another. FECs are based on the premise that community members design and drive the FEC's activities or offerings.

Protective Factors:

When protective factors are well-established in a family structure, studies have shown that the likelihood of child abuse and neglect diminishes, and well-being increases. The five evidence- based protective factors include parental resilience; knowledge of parenting and child development; social and emotional competence of children: social connections and; concrete support in times of need. The Centers have incorporated economic mobility and communication as two additional protective Factors.

The 5 Protective Factors:

  • Parental Resilience - Be strong and flexible. Managing stress and functioning well when faced with challenges, adversity, and trauma

  • Social Connections - Parents need friends. Positive relationships provide emotional, informational, instrumental, and spiritual support.

  • Concrete support in times of need - Everybody needs help sometimes. Access to concrete support and services that address a family's needs and help minimize stress caused by challenges.

  • Social & Emotional competence - Communication. Family and child interactions help children develop the ability to communicate clearly, recognize and regulate their emotions and establish and maintain relationships.

  • Knowledge (of parenting and child development) - being a great parent is part natural and part learned. Understanding child development and parenting strategies that support physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional development.

The 2 Additional Factors Incorporated Are From ACS Which Are:

  • Economic Mobility - Everyone should be economically stable and have access to educational and career pathways to create a stable foundation for themselves and their family. Individuals have resources & opportunities for growth.

  • Community - Everyone should have connections to neighbors and nurturing relationships among family members and between parents, caregivers, and children. Strong relationships amongst neighbors.
